06 July: International Day of Cooperative Organisations 

July the 6th, 2025, is the International Day of Coοperative Organisations that reminds us of the importance of collaborative models for social and economic development. Cooperatives are one of the oldest and most successful examples of collective entrepreneurship, with over 3 million cooperatives worldwide serving more than 1 billion members. 

This year’s theme, “Working together for a Green Planet”, highlights the contribution of cooperatives to sustainability and equitable development. Cooperatives offer a model that combines business efficiency with social responsibility, promoting collective well-being. Research shows that members of cooperatives have 20% higher financial stability than employees of other types of enterprises. 

In agriculture, cooperatives help support small producers by ensuring better market access and stable prices. In the energy sector, initiatives such as community energy cooperatives enable the production and distribution of green energy to local communities. 

Businesses can draw inspiration from the structure and principles of cooperatives. A collaborative approach to work and decision-making can boost productivity, innovation and employee satisfaction. In addition, cooperatives are a viable development tool for emerging markets, promoting the economic empowerment of local populations. Business consultants can promote the spirit of the cooperative in cooperation with businesses.
