12 June: World Day Against Child Labour
June 12, 2025, International Day against Child Labour, is a reminder of one of the biggest social issues of our time. Despite the progress made, more than 160 million children are still in work worldwide, according to the International Labour Organization (ILO) 2024 report.
Child labour is not only about ethical issues but also about serious impacts on societies and economies. Businesses play a key role in addressing the problem, notably through the adoption of responsible supply chains. Companies such as Nestlé and Unilever have implemented control systems to ensure their suppliers do not use child labour, setting standards for the rest of the market.
Implementing international standards, such as the UN Human Rights and Business Directives, is a key tool for companies. At the same time, cooperation with NGOs and organizations active in the education of children and the financial support of their families enhances the efficiency of actions.
Tackling child labour is also linked to the creation of sustainable economic models. For example, investments in agriculture or industry based on automation technologies reduce dependence on cheap labour while offering employment opportunities to adults.
The International Day against Child Labour is a reminder of the need for continued engagement by governments, businesses and society. Companies that invest in transparency, responsible business strategy and cooperation with international organizations and business consultants contribute decisively to the elimination of child labor. At the same time, they create a strong image of trust and ethics, laying the foundations for a fairer and more sustainable future.
